What Are Phytoestrogens?
Phytoestrogens are natural plant compounds that have a chemical structure similar to human estrogen. Because of this similarity, they can interact with estrogen receptors in the body and mimic or modulate estrogen’s effects.
Pueraria mirifica contains several powerful phytoestrogens, including miroestrol, deoxymiroestrol, and genistein. These compounds are considered the key active ingredients responsible for the herb’s effects on the body.
When consumed or applied topically, the phytoestrogens in Pueraria mirifica bind to estrogen receptors found in various tissues, such as skin, bones, and reproductive organs. This binding can activate the receptors to produce estrogen-like effects. However, unlike synthetic estrogen, phytoestrogens often act as selective modulators, meaning they can either stimulate or block estrogen activity depending on the tissue type and hormone levels.
The phytoestrogens in Pueraria mirifica work by interacting with estrogen receptors in the body, producing selective estrogenic effects. This scientific mechanism underlies many of the herb’s benefits for skin health, hormonal balance, and overall wellness.
